My NICU Experience
A little over three years ago my first baby had to spend 5 days in the NICU after he was born due to complications during labor. He was made NPO, which essentially means he can’t take any nutrition by mouth. This lasted for 3 days!!! I was a huge mess and kept asking the nurses if they would at least put in an NG tube 😢. He could not eat until the speech language pathologist was able to come and do a swallow evaluation. I did not know how to advocate for myself or my baby and just did what the doctors and nurses told me do. I felt helpless and afraid. I don’t want anyone else to ever feel that way. I am here to be a resource and support for parents with children with feeding and swallowing impairment, parents of picky eaters, caregivers for adults with dysphagia and people who have dysphagia themselves.
